Ex-Tech Mahindra APAC head Paramjit Dhankhar shot dead by neighbour over parking in Faridabad
Faridabad. Paramjit Dhankhar flew home from Singapore this week for his nephew’s wedding. On Dhanteras night, he was shot dead in the parking area of his own building in Faridabad, allegedly by the man who lived two floors above him.
Dhankhar was a Senior Vice President at FPT Asia Pacific, the Singapore-based arm of Vietnamese IT major FPT. Before that, he was Tech Mahindra’s Regional Business Head for Asia-Pacific. Police said his neighbour, Mohan alias Monu Sharma, fired around 15 rounds from his licensed pistol after a row over a parked car on Friday night. Eight to nine bullets hit Dhankhar, who died on the spot.
The accused fled with his family. Police have registered a murder case against five people, and raids are on to arrest them.
Back from the gym, then the gunfire
“It is reported that Paramjit returned home from the gym at around 8 pm, when a parking dispute broke out with Mohan alias Monu Sharma. As the argument escalated, Monu allegedly opened fire on him,” Surajkund SHO Prahlad Kumar told reporters.
Police said Dhankhar found Monu’s car parked in his family’s fixed spot and asked him to move it. The two argued. Police say Monu then pulled out his pistol and kept firing.
Dhankhar’s son, Shaurya, called the police. Officers found empty cartridge cases across the parking area. Teams from Surajkund police station, the Crime Branch and forensic experts examined the spot, which has been sealed. Police are checking CCTV footage from the area.
A dog, a parking spot and an old grudge
The trouble did not start on Friday. Police said the two families had been quarrelling for some time over parking, and because Monu’s family let their dog relieve itself in the shared parking area. Dhankhar’s family objected to both.
Dhankhar lived on the first floor of building No. 641 in Sector 21C with his wife, son and daughter. Monu’s family lives on the third floor.
The SHO said Monu and Shaurya had also clashed four to five days before the shooting, but that quarrel was settled at the time.
Neighbours crowded outside the building late into the night. “Nobody ever thought something this horrific could happen,” one neighbour told local reporters.
Five booked
On Shaurya’s complaint, police have booked Monu alias Mohan, his wife Divya, son Mayank, daughter Naina and brother Hetram.
“The police are investigating all aspects of the case. Full details will emerge only after the investigation is complete,” SHO Prahlad Kumar said.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
Biker, fitness lover, business leader
Originally from Hisar, Dhankhar studied at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak. He led FPT Asia Pacific’s business process services in Singapore and spoke at company events on AI and customer experience this year.
Outside work, he was a keen biker. FPT featured his 4,000-km motorcycle ride to Bhutan as a story of a senior leader testing his limits. His nephew’s wedding is on November 24.
