Big relief for Haryana farmers: sugarcane price hiked to ₹450 per quintal
Chandigarh. Sugarcane growers in Haryana will get ₹35 more per quintal over the next two crushing seasons. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the hike on Thursday and fixed the rates for both seasons in advance.
Farmers will be paid ₹430 per quintal in 2026-27, up ₹15 from ₹415 in 2025-26. The price will rise by another ₹20 to ₹450 per quintal in 2027-28.
What farmers will gain
Saini said sugarcane yield in the state usually ranges from 700 to 800 quintals per hectare, or about 283 to 324 quintals per acre. At that level, the full ₹35 hike will put about ₹10,000 to ₹11,300 more per acre per season into a farmer’s pocket by 2027-28, compared with the 2025-26 rate.
Why the hike
The Chief Minister said farmers’ groups had told him in recent meetings that diesel, labour and fertiliser prices have pushed up the cost of growing cane. He said the move to ₹450 per quintal will help farmers cover these higher input costs.
Saini said the better price will also encourage more farmers to grow sugarcane. That will raise output and give sugar mills enough cane to run at full capacity.
Two-year price fixed in advance
Saini said announcing prices for two seasons in one go gives farmers certainty and helps them plan their sowing. With cane in short supply across the country, he said the decision will also keep farmers from moving to other crops.
