Haryana gave 2 lakh govt jobs without bribes or sifarish, says Nayab Saini on Unity Day

Chandigarh. More than two lakh young people in Haryana have landed government jobs without paying a bribe or carrying a recommendation, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini claimed on Saturday. He said his government had ended favouritism in state recruitment.

Saini made the claim at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) event at the Haryana Civil Secretariat. The event marked the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The CM tied fair hiring directly to Patel’s idea of honest administration.

Unity, he said, is not held together by borders alone. It also rests on fair decisions and public trust. Every citizen, he said, should feel the government belongs to them.

The CM warned against attempts to divide society along lines of region, language and rumours. He asked people to stand by the spirit of “Haryana Ek–Haryanvi Ek” (one Haryana, one Haryanvi). Haryana, he said, must take a leading role in building a developed India by 2047.

Saini offered floral tributes to Patel, greeted the people of the state and administered the national unity pledge to officers and employees.

‘Sardar’ title came from farmers

Going back to 1947, Saini said many had doubted whether India could stay united after Independence. Patel brought hundreds of princely states into the Union, he said, and the way he handled Junagadh and Hyderabad showed his firm resolve.

He reminded the gathering that Patel did not get the title “Sardar” from any government. Farmers gave it to him for fighting for their rights. The title is linked to the 1928 Bardoli Satyagraha in Gujarat, where Patel led farmers against a steep tax hike.

Lesson for officers

Speaking to the bureaucrats in the hall, Saini said Patel’s vision for the All India Services still holds good. In his address to officers on April 21, 1947, Patel had stressed service, impartiality and integrity. Those values, the CM said, must continue to guide governance.

Saini credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with honouring Patel’s contribution. Modi started National Unity Day celebrations in 2014 and commissioned the Statue of Unity, which the CM said carried India’s message of unity to the world.

Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi thanked the CM for attending. He recalled Patel’s determination and administrative skill in uniting the country at a difficult time in its history.

Additional Chief Secretaries Sudhir Rajpal and Dr Sumita Misra were present, along with other officers and employees.
